Unable to open downloaded files

[AC Question]

I used to be able to open files on my Motorola Moto G without any problem. However now it says "unable to open file". A friend sent me a document via email and it appears to have downloaded successfully but I cannot open it.

Anyone able to help? I don't know whether I have deleted the app required to open files or if I've deleted something else. I don't know where to start looking!

What email app are you using? Do you have Google Quickoffice installed on your device? Have you tried using a file explorer of some sort? What types of files are you trying to open? Does your email app give you a list of options to "Open With"?
