Nexus 5X properly dismount usb connection

[AC Question]

I am able to transfer files from/to my Windows 8 laptop and Nexus 5X with a USB cable. When I am done, there is no dismount USB selection on the Nexus 5X and no eject button on the W8. On Nexus 5X, I deselect the file transfer selection and select the charge only; and then pull the cable out. I do not want to corrupt my internal memory on 5X.
Is this the proper way of removing the USB connection on the Nexus 5X?
