I'm not familiar with the LG android experience, but with AOSP 6.0.1 on my tablet, I can set permissions like data usage in the application manager. On my galaxy S6 running mm, I have the same control over my apps.
Another option that you can consider is a firewall. Many of the firewalls out there require you to have a rooted device (superuser), but there are ones that claim to work without root. I have used a firewall in the past with kitkat and lollypop, with excellent results, but Is rooted.
Go to your data usage screen and look at the list of apps that have used data. Click on one of the apps and see if you get a screen that allows you to toggle data access. I do on both my phone and tablet running marshmallow.
"Restrict Background Data" is the setting you're looking for.
Or "No Root Firewall"
