My phone doesn't connect to my laptop via USB. why?

when i open it, it's just battery charging and no notifications come up. I can't transfer my files because of these. Please help.

Make sure you're device is set to MTP mode and not charge only by pulling down notification shade while device is connecting to pc.

Ensure you have the latest drivers installed on your PC for the device.
