Why are my menu and back light buttons flickering on Galaxy Alpha

Hi all. My menu and back light buttons have started flickering. I have gone to settings and checked all are ok. Eg, power saving etc and timeout etc. They are set to always on now and they still flicker. Would also like to ask if anyone knows whether the menu and back lights are part of the LCD digitizer screen or not as a local phone shop seems to think they are not?? Seems strange to me as I thought the LCD digitizer was the whole of the phone face and was complete. Thanks in advance.
