SM-P907A Android version update

[AC Question]

...lost my previous 12.2 and recently picked-up a slightly used one...works great, now I'm wanting to get it updated from 4.4.2 to the latest android version (6.0.1?)...I'm on Consumer Cellular but it's on ATT's trunk, so I went to check for updates and downloaded a gig or so of ATT update...then, after it worked on it for awhile and restarted, I was told update has failed. I guess my question is, how do I do this update...or, *should* I do this update if I can find a way?

(Back everything up first, though - flashing a ROM gives you a new, out of the box, device.)
