I use Go SMS Pro on my Google Pixel. Overall, it's been a pretty good option for me - successful group messages with iPhone users, emoji keyboard, etc., though it can have an annoying lag sometimes.
I have asked my iPhone-using friends to do 2 things: 1.) erase my contact and re-add it and 2.) turn off iMessage, then turn it right back on. This seems to help with 90% of my iPhone-using friends. I have a select few iPhone friends to whom Go SMS Pro will not send SMS texts. I can receive texts from them in the app, but I get a "text not delivered" message when I try to send one to these specific friends.
