Why won't my volume buttons work?

[AC Question]

Everytime I try to press on my volume button to change the volume on my Moto G, the little bar pops up that indicates that the volume is decreasing or increasing but it doesn't actually increase or decrease. the speaker has a mind of its own, sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's quiet. Even when I press the volume down button all the way until it's mute, the video or song will still be playing as loud as it was before. Someone please help! Also, I can't seem to plug in my headphones anymore. whenever I plug them in, it's like my Moto G won't recognize that I plugged them in. Please help, I love wearing headphones! Anything is helpful! thank you.

Try wiping cache partition for a start, that cures minor ailments..
