I haven't seen the answer to this anywhere else, so bear with me. I figure TF owners are probably more knowledgeable than the average smartphone owner. :)

I'm trying to find out whether a the size of an audio or video file is identical to the amount of data that is streamed to a device. For example, if you stream a 5 MB MP3 file to your tablet or smartphone, are you transmitting 5 MB of data, or is it more because the data is compressed?

The only reason I ask is I'm trying to understand whether a data plan that caps at say, 5 GB, would allow you to stream a 5 GB media file before topping out.

This is just intellectual curiosity---my VZW plan is unlimited.
