Bluetooth tether in the eyes of big red

OK, so I just tried to bluetooth tether my tf201 with the bionic and it works flawlessly as long as I am on 3g. This was a shock to me as I was never prompted that I needed a data plan etc. Is this feature accepted as not needing a tethering plan? Or will vzw just slap a tether on without warning? I have also heard it works the same way with corded usb tethering with no tether plan. Don't get me wrong I think charging more for a connection you already pay for is nothing short of robbery, but if I am just going to get nailed by vzw down the line I just wont use it.
