Greetings

I have a Galaxy S II X (Telus version in Canada) running their stock firmware, based on Android 2.3.5.

I've set it up to not sync my contacts with Gmail, and my contacts lists displays only the people I've added. However, if I create a text message and add recipients, it lists all my contacts in addition to every single person to whom I've ever sent an email from my Gmail account, and it's bloody annoying. I've been through the phone settings and can't find any way to disable this... any suggestions? If this is a "feature" of the firmware, would I be better off rooting it and installing a different ROM?

If you go to the Gmail website and look under settings, there is a option near the bottom for "Create contacts for auto-complete:" Set this to "I'll add contacts myself" and that should keep them from being added in the future. Then go into your Gmail contacts and delete out the people you don't want. They will be automatically removed from your your Gmail contacts on the phone as well.

Hope this helps.
