Travelling to Australia - What phone and SIM Card do I need?

I am going to be travelling to Australia in a week and need to figure out what I need for a cell phone. I have a CDMA Galaxy Nexus, so I will need a new phone for the trip.

I am thinking about buying used phone off Swappa or Craigslist. I also considered a Nexus 4.

Also what do I need for a SIM card? Buy one here or wait and buy one there?

Any help and tips on Android travels to Australia would be appreciated.

You can buy Travelsim - it's international roaming sim-card, which can be used in Australia too (it only works with unlocked phones though). Incoming calls in Australia are free of charge with it and making outgoing calls/using GPRS isn't that expencive.

Check rates in whatever city you'll be in, using the internet. It may be cheaper buying a SIM card here, there or somewhere else. It's 2013 - almost anything you want is as close as a Google search.
