With all of the recent controversy regarding Verizon's decision to lock the hardware Search button to Bing, I was wondering if stock Android allowed reconfiguration of the hardware Search key to any search provider.
On my Nexus One, I access the settings via Menu>Settings>Search and the only option I see is 'Google search'. I installed the Yahoo search app from the Market, and 'Yahoo search' doesn't show-up here after I install it. I can also find no settings to reconfigure any of the hardware buttons and the app associated with them, including the Search button.
So since Android is so "Open", then why doesn't the OS allow the user to set their own search provider of choice, leaving Google as the only option?
