Simple way to stream media from a DLNA server to my device

Seems so simple but I can't figure it out. On my HTC One there is a music player app that allows me to browse for media servers, and I have a DLNA enabled 2 TB HD with a ton of music on it connected to my wifi router- the phone finds it and streams music from it no problem. But now I'm trying to do the same with my Nexus 7 Tablet. The default music player is Google Music. I can't find any way to stream from my server using that, and I understand it's all based on an external cloud. So I'm trying to download another music player from the play store, preferably something free or low cost, preferably lightweight, preferably simple to use, and so far I've installed Rocket Player and n7player and neither seems to do what I want. Everything I search up on google seems to be about going the other direction, ie. sending media from my handheld device to a TV or something. What am I missing?
