Google play services is destroying my battery (19hr+ awake time)

Hi,

I've just updated to the most recent version of CM11 on my Galaxy S3, and Google Play Services is using up an incredible amount of battery:

71% and over 19 hours awake time, even though I haven't really used anything Google related so far other than open up Google Now once.

Any ideas what could be causing this please, and how to fix it?

When did you do the update? Were you coming from a different ROM?

Yesterday around mid-day, I was using CM11 before but updated because I was having a few problems (also with Google Play Services! that time it was the SystemUpdateService)

I would honestly give it a little more time. There may be a lot of background things happening and maybe there will be some improvement over the next day or so.

Thank you - a day later and if anything it's worse, battery is almost dead after just 10 hours of very, very light use!
