Why does my phone say I need update but doesn't update?

my phone says last time updated was December 31, 1969...and it won't allow me to use alot of my apps because it says I need to update google play services, but when I try to update google play it just takes me to a blank screen and does nothing.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have?

On your computer, go to the Google Play Services app page on the Play Store, click Installed, and look for your phone in the list. See if it will let you update it remotely that way.

It won't work that way either. It says that it's already installed on this device but I know for a fact it isn't

Hmm. The Google Play Services app page used to give me the option to look for the various devices I have, and install remotely to the ones that aren't updated. But that doesn't seem to work any more.

Which phone do you have? I'm wondering how easy it might be to reinstall the firmware. It's relatively easy with Nexus or Samsung devices.

I have an LG G3 metallic black and I'm with
T-Mobile.
