remote wipe of Android when the phone is on airplane mode?

I was travelling , and i think i left my phone in the airplane . i had put it on airplane mode . i tried using Android device manager but i cannot locate or wipe/lock my phone . my first question is ... if i have sent a lock request will it automatically lock the phone if the phone finds a signal / internet connection ? i would appreciate it if someone can help me .

Android Device Manager will only work if the phone has a connection to the Internet. Since you left it in airplane mode, that won't help, unfortunately. Have you checked with the airport's baggage office to see if they found anything?

i did , but it was not there and the airplane went back or someone took it . anywho . i do appreciate the thought and trying helping me out here . Much appreciated . Please do take care and have a happy Diwali .
