RCA Pro 10 keyboard stopped working

Was casting my screen to a Chromecast device then switched WiFi networks and the (hardware) keyboard stopped functioning. Stuck in softkey mode only even after numerous resets (using reset button) and numerous system reboots. DO NOT SUGGEST A FACTORY RESET! I will hate you forever if you do. I have too many files to risk that...

I was able to resolve this issue by detaching my tablet from the hardware keyboard and reset the tablet using the reset button and then booting the tablet while it was DISCONNECTED from the keyboard. It would seem the software was unable to detect the keyboard as being connected [until] I booted the tablet without the keyboard attached. Once it was booted and back to the [home] screen I then [reattached] the keyboard and it functions normally once again...
