How to import SMS messages from SIM card onto phone?

How do I import my old SMS messages from the installed SIM card onto my phone proper so that they show up in my default texting app(s)?

I've tried a variety of apps but the best I can do is see the SMS messages in that one app only; I want to add them to the same place as my other messages so that there's no difference between the old and the new.

NB: I am not interested in getting contacts, just the text messages. Thanks.

SMS messages are in a database file in internal storage on the phone. Use SMS Backup & Restore to back them up in the old phone, install it in the new phone, copy the backup file from the old phone to the new phone (it's an .xml folder and the only one in the app's backup folder) and run the app to restore (choose restore) in the new phone. (It'll wipe out any messages already in the new phone. If you want to keep them, back them up to a different .xml file name, then edit one file and merge the second one into it. [.xml is formatted text - you can learn to read it by just reading it.] Then restore the merged file.)
