Feeling down on the Nexus line

That is your opinion. That's fine. But cheap prices get you a cheap phone. Nexus devices have notoriously iffy battery life and bad cameras. The Nexus 6 remedies this plus having top of the line specs and guaranteed updates.

Let cheap phones be cheap phones, when you compromise, you have a less than stellar experience and even then the Nexus 5 is still for sale, and is good for another year. Complaining about prices IS just being cheap.

Complaining about pricing is not being cheap when the complaints are valid. Buying the best hardware for the lowest cost is what smart consumers do. Would you rather be a smart consumer or a dumb consumer?

The Nexus line used to be about three things: 1) Latest and fastest updates. 2) Bleeding edge hardware. 3) Affordable pricing.

The Nexus 9 has questionable quality control and is overpriced for what it is. The Nexus 6 has NONE of those things, since other smartphones already have Android 5.0 before the Nexus 6 has even released yet.

The Nexus line is still just meant to be a set of reference devices. They only raised the prices this year because the 6 & 9 have higher (and thus more expensive) specs, and most importantly, Google does not want to undercut their partners. Google would be screwing their partners over if they kept offering premiun devices for half the price of all the other premiums. Google wants people to buy fron HTC, Samsung, LG, etc. If anything, the higher price is meant to make it harder for people to choose a Nexus over the other OEMs. It's cool if people buy a Nexus but it's better for Google if someone buys from a partner.

Better than what the Nexus 5 was. Remember that? It took an update for the camera and battery to be fixed.
Agreed, I was just expecting the 6 to come closer to the top of those comparisons in that link. On average the scores seem to be sitting just right about the middle vs other androids and other OS's
This isn't actually a nexus nitpick but after seeing how much devices with the K1 and A8 are crushing the competition in performance benchmarks, I'm also tempted to scratch phones with snapdragon off of my shopping list for next year
