Default StraightTalk AT&T APN setting issues.

I set up my prepaid StraightTalk AT&T APN settings as recommended (though I did leave some of the already filled in parts as they were). I was consistently getting less than 1 meg down and about 1 meg up. Then I changed the proxy to blank and the port to blank (recommended from an xda thread) and my speeds went to 5 to 7 meg down and still about 1 up. I have 4 bars of H on my signal indicator. I was wondering if any of you have different APN settings that might be working better.

Here are my current settings (getting speeds of 5-7 and 1):

    Name: straight talk
    APN: att.mvno
    Proxy: Not set
    Port: Not set
    User Name: Not set
    Password: Not set
    Server: Not set
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
    MMS port: 80
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 410
    Authentication type: Not set
    APN type: Not set
    APN protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled (this is grayed out with a check mark in the box)
    Bearer: Unspecified

    Thanks for your help.

I had the worst time getting my phone set up because the ST-supplied settings didn't work at all for me. I really don't get what the deal is, but after stumbling around and searching, I used these:

    Name: [doesn't matter]
    APN: att.mvno
    Proxy: Not set
    Port: 80
    User Name: Not set
    Password: Not set
    Server: Not set
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
    MMS port: 80
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 410
    Authentication type: Not set
    APN type: default,supl
    APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
    APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled (this is grayed out with a check mark in the box)
    Bearer: Unspecified

I'm getting 2.5-4 down and 1 up, which isn't great, but I've been so abused by Trudge's dial-up speeds anything faster feels great. It's hard to compare speeds because everyone sits in a different spot with different towers, building they're in, etc. Only by switching and comparing what works for you where you are can you get the best settings. It appears you've managed to do OK; I'm going to give yours a try to see if they help me.

EDIT: To prove my own point, I just tested at home and I'm getting 6-8 down and 1.2 up. Deleting the port # up top cut my ping 75%, but the high reading could've been an anomaly.

OP check the Straight Talk thread here (usually) on page one of the forum. They might be able to help you out but honestly, I too only get about 1up and ~5-6 down which works for me. Anything beats Sprint's horrendous 3G speeds which I've been dealing with for the past 2+ years.

I'll keep these two competing APN on hand, one APN type not set, other has default, supl, mines should be here Monday.

I read on an xda thread that you should add mms to that APN type (so it should be: default, supl, mms). It was said to fix not sending (or maybe receiving) mms.

People are contacting me through my Google Voice # so I can't receive MMS anyway. I can count on one hand how many MMS messages I've received from people. If they need to send a picture, email it to me or send the link to it.

Thanks for the info. Copied all three and will try your rec first because it has to have the "mms" . My SGH-I717 Galaxy Note APN type options are:
    Internet+MMS+SUPL
    Internet
    MMS
    SUPL
I'm still on GB & I put the green dot inside the 1st option.
What about Authentication type, mines say PAP or CHAP, no knowledge of what it means but all functions work.

I set up my Nexus 4 two days ago with Straight Talk. I'll give the settings I got directly from Tracfone by calling 1-800-876-5753. Don't bother with the other number, if it's too full you can't even get on queue. I had to call because they screwed up the initial setup since they forgot to include the data connection. I did alter their settings a bit after testing which is why there are comments next to some fields.
    Name: straight talk
    APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com ( I suggest leaving this blank. It causes speed tests to fail and leaving it as blank works just as well.)
Port: 80 (This is the tracfone default. Without it my download speed suffers)
    User Name: Not set
    Password: Not set
    Server: Not set
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
    MMS port: 80
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 410
    Authentication type: Not set
APN type: Not set (This is the tracfone default and works fine for me. Having or not having "default, supl, mms" doesn't affect my service at all.)
APN protocol: IPv4 (IPv4/IPv6 works as well and doesn't affect my speed)
APN enable/disable: APN enabled (this is grayed out with a check mark in the box)
    Bearer: Unspecified

I just got an ATT compatible Galaxy Note II and use the straight talk service. I can't seem to edit or add the APN at all. When I go through more settings>mobile networks>access point names the ATT Phone shows up with the circle filled in so I click that and it takes me to edit access point but all the settings are grayed out and won't allow editing. Is there something I'm doing wrong? This is my first smart phone so I'm sure there's something I didn't do. Thanks in advance.

My Nexus 4 is my first smartphone, so I understand how fun/frustrating the growing pains can be. I have no idea if it is the same, but from the page where you see the APN with the filled in dot next to it if you press the menu icon (boxes) then you can create a new APN and edit all the fields. After a new one is created you can select it to be the default.

If that doesn't work I'd start wondering if the phone was unlocked...

Keep in mind I'm also a newbie, so others can let likely tell you better. You also might do better in your phone specific forum.

    I need help guys!!

Ok, so ive been on ST for a while now with a Gnex. A few weeks ago my data stopped working. Ive been too busy moving and wht not to call and straighten it out, also their wait time is usually like 30min.

I just got my N4 the other day, switched my # over to it, got it all set up, it works, done.

Same thing, no data. Calls and txts work. I finally got through to customer service today, but they keep saying i have to call them, or they have to call me back on a different phone, because i have to go into my settings. I get that. But I live alone and this is my only and primary phone. So i cant do that. But i know they're just gonna tell me to check my apn settings.

Ive been through a lot of these threads, and tried any and all the APN combinations people are posting. Nothing works.

Before this happened I have been tethering and using an *** load of data, my first time ever. I used to barely use close to 2gb, but in december I went to 5.98gb. So i think they flagged me and turned it off. I asked the operator if she see anything like that on her computer, if ive been flagged or if they turned it off because I used too much data. She said they do that, but MY account doesnt have that, not showing tht Ive been turned off or flagged.

So, is there something in addition to the APN or something else in the settings that can fix my dillema?

When I attempt to change MNC to 410, the entire APN disappears!

That aside, I have every other setting above as you have it and have no data and no mms on my Captivate Glide.

It sounds like you are not in the U.S. ? What country are you in? MCC and MNC should have been put in automatically after the sim card was finished activating from straight talk. Those are automatic depending on your location.
