Do you always turn on the HDR+ mode whenever you take photos with the nexus 5?
Dunno why but the HDR+ to me the least is how the Nexus 5 camera should act, and it's not a real HDR anyway

Actually the Nexus 5 is one of the few phone cameras that does real HDR. It takes 3 rapid shots at different apertures and the computer combines them to get a wider dynamic range than otherwise possible. Most others simply adjust a single image to poorly simulate HDR.

HDR+ "ON" is my default.

No, it is doing real HDR. The Nexus is actually taking multiple images at different exposures and blending them.

It does not handle scenes with action very well. Even just people walking. if you have a scene with movement, I would turn it off to get a clear picture.

Just about any time you change any of the camera settings, it will come off of HDR+. When you're done with whatever other setting you were using, you'll have to turn HDR+ back on. It should stay on HDR+ unless you change a setting.

Took this at the Spaghetti Factory in Downtown Denver. This is inside a trolly that is entombed inside the restaurant and used for dining space. This was VERY low light and the Nexus handled it awesomely.
