I have a busted Nexus 7 2012, and I'm interested in picking up a 7 2013.

Thing is, should I?

How does the 2013 handle Lollipop in comparison to the 2012? The 2012 model just came to a stand-still with Lollipop, I'm hoping that the 2013 model can handle it better. TBH I want to get a Nexus 9, but I can't really afford one, plus I don't really need a nine inch screen.

Is getting a 2013 worth it, or should I hunt down a different tablet?

I would say yes, it would be worth it. First, you can probably get a new one at a good price, and a factory refurbished one even cheaper. I haven't had any issues with LP 5.1.1, and it still performs like new (even better than when I first purchased it). The size, as you know, is great. Something else may be a little larger (screenwise, etc.), but I wouldn't replace mine with anything over 8". If were happy with your 2012, you'll be happy with the 2013.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say you might want to wait a week, juuust in case Google announces anything awesome at Google I/O. It's likely any new devices wouldn't come for months, and may not be as good of a deal. The Nexus 7 2013 is still an excellent tablet.

It really is an amazing tablet. I am getting very sad at the prospect that the 7 inch form factor is going to be ignored by the better Android tablet makers. It's just the absolutely perfect size for me: fits my hand great, screen is visually very comfortable, and it fits in a pants pocket if necessary.
