How smoothly does a call switch between carriers?

I am interested in Project Fi because I live in a rural area, and outside of town, cell coverage is spotty at best. Carrier A's phone will work ehre, and B there etc.

I like the idea of the phone being able to swap between carriers to get better coverage. How smooth is the transition between carriers? Does it switch when a call is active?

I have never noticed it switch and I know it has.

Same here, I know I started a call on one service and when I was done saw that it was on another. Never noticed when the switch took place.
