I am also coming from a Palm Pre and here are my main issues. Also, before I get blasted by people, I prefer my EVO to my Pre. But EVO and android are far from perfect.
• Multitasking on the Palm Pre is simply the best. Switching between apps is extremely effortless. I know there are apps to improve this on Android, but they will never be as good as WebOS. Closing apps is extremely easy on the Pre and very hard on Android
• Notifications are by far better on the pre. Getting pop ups on the bottom of the screen, for emails, texts, etc are amazing on the Pre. I get notifications on the top of my EVO, but even when you pull down the notifications area it doesn’t give you details on the email or text as the pre does.
• Email. On my pre I would get my email the second it arrives. I setup my exchange account on my EVO to get items as they arrive, however they don’t. I’ve sent test emails and I don’t get an alert for up to 30+ minutes. On my Pre, I would get email before Outlook on my desktop. Also, what’s up with only 1 exchange account??? I had unlimited with my Pre. This is a huge issue, because sometimes my clients will give me an exchange email account and want me to use that instead of my companies email account. Anyone know if 2.2 will give me multiple exchange accounts?
• I love the flashing light on the bottom my Sprint Palm Pre. I can see from several feet away if I have any emails or texts without ever turning on my phone. My Evo has an indicator, but it’s not as big or as easy to see. Does anyone know how to change the color for different alerts and have multiple lights?? For example a blue light for texts, red for email, etc.
• Rooting. I could easily root my pre without wiping it. I saw there is a new way to root with an app today, but it needs to be run every time to restart. I was could easily tweak, install patches, overclock, etc on my Pre without ever wiping it.
I like the EVO better than the Pre because there is a lot more I can do with it. Android has been around a little longer and has more features. Also, widgets are not possible on WebOS. The Market has tons more apps than WebOS (although I think WebOS has a lot more quality apps). In my opinion WebOS is a better OS, but its youth, bad hardware, and bad luck are what caused me to switch. So Android is for me…for now, however I can see myself switching back to WebOS if HP builds it out.
