Converting vids to play via Evo's HMDI outlet?

I know people were hoping to stream online content onto their Hi Def televisions... but seeing that videos shot on the Evo can be output to HD TVs, shouldn't there be a way of encoding a video on your computer to take advantage of that?

i.e. rip one of your legally purchased DVDs onto your computer, convert it to Evo's native camcorder format and then transferring it to the SD card to later play on HD TVs whenever you want?
