Google Voice Search Crash when long pressing headset button from Lock Screen Only.

Very annoying. Here's the steps.

1. Device is locked...
2. Long press headset button
3. Google Voice Search screen flashes up momentarily then returns to standard lock screen.
4. Unlock phone and you get an alert "Unfortunately Google Search Has Stopped".

Has anyone else seen this?
It works just fine when the phone is unlocked. Have tried different headsets.

HTC One (M7) AT&T, Rooted.
Android 4.4.2
