Why does my LG G3 screen flicker and fades to darkness?

yup, exactly same as me. i even contacted LG and they said it's only covered if it is related to a software update. but i never did any software updates lately. its 100% hardware related, caused by bad solder from the factory obviously. got 6 months left on my contract not sure if i wanna get another LG even tho they are offering the G4 for free if i pay off my $150 flextab lol

Who is your carrier?

rogers. i told them they should wave my flextab as the device was babied it's entire life and failed 6 months after warranty ended.. i owe $149 for my flextab on this G3, if i pay the flextab off i can get either a free S6 32GB, LG G4 or a few other phones that aren't as good as those two lol. s6 is great except no microSD slot is a huge dealbreaker for me... i might just pay the flextab and go to another carrier since i've been with rogers 10 years and they can't even give me a break

I was going to try the same thing. My tab is $175 ish and I was going to try and get them to waive it and maybe go for an S7 or just buy a Nexus outright (Newegg Canada have them for $569.99 atm, $180 off). Rogers Live Chat quoted me $399 for an S7.

Depending how this paper fix goes, I'll try and call Monday instead of talking to the terrible Live Chat people.

good luck! paper fix only lasted me a day, now my phone doesn't even power on at all lmao. Might try baking it tonight, doubt it will work.

Baking got me 6 days, and one day of irritating but usable screen flicker. Did that for 4 weeks before outright failure. It buys you time but not much in my experience

New trick ! Close sensor near front camera by sticker....and close auto screen .....it work!!

Paper trick stopped working after a day... I'm done with LG
Now they are gonna make me pay the $170 tab that I have left. Lol.

I have the same problem! In my case it started with this flickering and fading to darkness and when i woke up today my LG G3 was completely done and I couldnt even turn it on...Isnt there really any other way than sending it to LG?

Re: HELP - LG G3 Screen Flickers and fades to darkness

I experienced this one for almost a week. Irritated and frustrated. I can't play anything for a single minute. Asked LG how much is it for the mainboard and they cost me Php13,000 (more or less $200). But right now, I just made my own fix for this.

Downgraded from MM to LL (stock, rooted), installed CTT mod, installed Xceed kernel, underclock CPU to 1497.6MHz, undervolted to -100mHz, undercurrent to -8mA, underclock GPU to 389MHz, turned off Knock On/Off Setting.

For more than a week, I can play AAA+ games like Implosion even while charging without any problems. I just noticed for G3 phones that it easily throttles its CPU to maximum clockspeed (2.6GHz) when it reaches 60degrees of temperature and causes our phones to overheat together with the LCD temperature and makes our screen to flicker.

CTT mod does everything for me. It lowers the temperature that my G3 has.

Hope this helps.

are we sure that this is a solder issue? Not only does my screen not work, when I mess with it (for hours at a time) and finally get it up and going, it doesn't recognize the SIM/SD cards? I emailed LG asking why this hasn't been recalled and their reply was that it is because the phone was released in 2014?!?!?

With everyone having the same issue, you'd think that they would take more accountability for this.

Everyone needs to (at the very least) send an email with this issue so that it's documented (I've sent multiple)

You may need to google on how to root your phone. You may need also to look for the right rom and compatible kernel to underclock, undervolt and undercurrent your kernel settings because we have a different phone variants. Using D855 by the way.

The only thing I can help is the mod that lowers down the temperature of your sensors. Here's the thread.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2907363

Everything is on XDA. It's just a matter of trial and error.

I can provide you the link on how to lower down the temperature of your G3 and it is compatible to any variants.

All you have to do is to search on how to root your phone, look to the right rom, look for a custom kernel that can undervolt your CPU, then the mod the can lower down the temperature.

I'm using 75C.

You may also turn off, GPS, automatic sync, automatic brightness, etc since those features will trigger to make use of the workloads of CPU. Use those features only if it is necessary.

I've found a solution to my issue... Upgrade to a new phone :-\
My carrier will waive the upgrade fee, so I'm moving to a GS7.

The paper trick is working, but the screen still garbles and fades intermittently. Usually during heavy CPU load. Will be enough for me to get my stuff off the phone and throw it in the trash.

Instead of the paper trick, I am using a PENNY. Yes a Penny. To help with the heat. This is set between the camera connector at the bottom left side of the camera and right on top of the plate below the camera. It has enough room to just fit in this spot and able to close it up. So far better than it was before. I finally had it where it was not working at all. I did have luck a little by using some force on bending and twisting the phone a little before this penny. I will update how long this holds.

Update: A few very short blackouts but pushing the back has brought it back without staying off. It's currently 10x better than the last few days.

in addition to the screen issues, is anyone having issues with the SIM and SD card recognition? I want to just get rid of this thing and start over with a new phone but now I can't access the files on my SD card; I tried removing the SD card from the phone and using an adapter but it wants me to format the card first...any other ideas?

Only SD card issue I had was when it kept showing eject and then available again every few minutes. Since sticking the penny in, I have not seen issues yet.
