Why don't I have a consistent mobile data connection?

LG G3 D851, stock 5.0.1 (D85102g)

My phone can't seem to hold a mobile data connection. I have tried cycling Airplane Mode, but only a restart has worked at restoring mobile data. The APN looks OK, and data drops across all apps (browser, weather, Google Voice, etc.) Short of a factory reset, what can I try?

The phone shipped to me with 5.0.1 and I have <1 week of (light) usage on it.

First, try reseating the SIM. If no go, ask your carrier to check that the SIM is good.

Look at the battery stats (Settings/General/Battery. Tap the graph to see te next page. Look at the bottom at the mobile signal. If it's not solid green, your carrier has a weak signal where you are, and that can cause the connection to keep dropping.
