Can I disable(freeze) system keyboard?

I'm using a lg k7... The keyboard was messing up quite a bit so I've downloaded Google keyboard from play store and haven't had any more problems since I've started using it. Since storage is almost nonexistent on this phone I'm wondering if I can freeze the lg keyboard so I can use those precious mbs. I've googled this question to death and even tried rewording it to no avail. Surely I can't be the only person to ask about this can I or is the answer that obvious and I'm just not getting it??

Disabling the keyboard will free up very little space as the app/keyboard remains. Uninstalling updates for that app will get you very little space back.
