Help removing underlined text

I've had my Optimus G for a week and beginning last night, all text (in messaging app or firefox) is underlined (black line) until I hit the space bar. I'm certain this wasn't happening before. I've done some searching and have tried changing the prediction / spell check settings but this hasn't helped. Anyone out there know how to disable this?

I'm pretty sure that has always been there. I always noticed it because it reminds me if I'm still typing a wording out or have already spaced.

I have this issue in the email app only. I find it to be super annoying but don't know how to get rid of it.

UPDATE: I changed the text from HTML to Plain Text and that helped a lot. Didn't entirely eliminate the problem but definitely made the email app more usable.
