Change of the signal bars/Themes

I was wondering is there a way to change the color of signal bars. Now I am well aware of UOT Kitchen, used it many times, that changes the status bar as a whole. I only want to change the signal bars from white to a blue. I figure I would have to change something in the framework file, then flash it when done.
Any help or ideas are appreciated!

Sprint and wifi signal bars at in systemui.apk. Use something like 7zip to access its contents without decompressing it. Pull out the Res folder to find the pngs you need to edit. Using Photoshop or gimp2 edit said images but don't change the names. Replace them into Res folder then drop it back into the apk via 7zip.

The signal bar icons are located in SystemUI.apk. For this change, no need to decompile. Just open up the apk and navigate into the res/drawable-mdpi folder. The icons you will want to change are named "sprint-blah-blah-blah.png". Edit them with Gimp (or whatever) and simply place them back into the apk.

Let me try to find you a base flashable zip to use as well.

Edit - hlxanthus beat me to it. Here's a base flashable zip to use though. Put the SystemUI.apk in the /system/app folder and flash with sig verification off.

Thanks. Just one more thing to note, I should have mentioned this earlier, I am on ZVD running reborn rom. I know where the framework file is but I do not fine a systemUI file. I thought that was 2.3 & up? Or am I not looking in the right spot.

Ah crap, lol. ZVD is different. Those images are in lge-res.apk located in framework. Same rules apply that I stated in my post above. And that zip will still work for you, just put the apk in framework folder.

Re: Change the color of signal bars

Ok I used 7zip to pull the the required file and I edited them with gimp and placed in back in the apk via 7zip. my question now is what do I put in the flashable zip?
The files that i edited, the drawable file or the lge-res.apk?
Where am i putting the file in the flashable zip, it already contains META-INF and system folders with there sub folders

My next question is the file from the lge-res.apk\res\drawable\icon_rssi_bars6.pro
not icon_rssi_bars6.png is that ok? I do not see any of them with a png suffix.
Or should I just keep it the same name ie: icon_rssi_bars6.pro?

And yes i know there is 6 of these file 1bar to 6bar.

Now when I move the Png back intothe drawable folder I have a ...icon_rssi_bars6.pro & icon_rssi_bars6.png. Should i delete the pro ones?

Oh yeah I forgot also about the .pro . They have to be .pro when finished. Then put the newly edited lge-res.apk into /framework in the flashable zip.

Ok so should I just rename them and change the .png to .pro?

and should i delete the placeholder file in the framework flashable?

Just change the .pro to .png so you can edit them and then change the .png back to .pro when finished. Keep the rest of the file names exactly the same as they where when you opened the apk. You can delete the placeholder if you want to, it wont hurt to leave it there either, its just an empty file.

Re: Change the color of signal bars

Thank you guys for your help, Is there any trick to remove the glowish color of the signal box.
Meaning you can see the bars are the aqua color, but the surrounding box also has a slight tint.
Now I am going to do the same with the 3G and clock if possible.

Nice job! In order to keep the background the same as before you basically must edit the actual bars only. This means outlining and selecting each vertical bar and changing the color one by one. Yes, this IS as tedious as it sounds! Welcome to the Android theme world. And you will find the 3g images in framework-res.apk but the clock is another animal. The color for that is controlled by a hex value in an XML file and off the top of my head I can't remember where that file is. I'm 90% sure its in /res/layout in framework-res.apk. But which file, I can't remember.

Re: Change the color of signal bars

Ok I re-did the editing of the signal bars to get rid of the glow in the box of the signal bars, this time doing each bar for each of the Png's indepenent of each other.
before and after pic's, slight color change too!

Still can not get the 3G to work says unknow file can not open in Gimp

You don't want to edit anything else in lge-res.apk. the 3G images you want are in framework-res.apk. and they are .png to begin with...... no need to mess with .pro files in framework-res.

Man you where not kidding!
There are over 200 png's I have to edit for the 3g symbol. I got 105 done. I use a animated 3g with a red uploaded arrow & green download arrow that move with the speed of service.

Holy crap man, your really going for it! I did a custom battery once (yes only once!) and it is 204 images. Had to build each image from the ground up........... took forever to complete. As a matter of fact I should post that mod here, I initially did it for the NS4G.

Tell me! A percentage battery sucks to theme, even if it is simple. The percentage only battery theme I did for Dante rom took me like 4 hours, not counting the time I took on sizing and font prep work I did.

I feel your pain.

Re: Change the color of signal bars

For a second, when I first looked at the time in your screenies, I thought: "Wait, he changed all those in -10 minutes?" (Than I noticed the date change)

Yea, I am not that good....LOL:confused: I think this is going to lead carpitunnel sydrome.
And I am still not done yet, yes I got the 3G & the Signal bars done, but now I am working on the usb symbol and the roaming triangle and then..........! Just wait until I fine the clock! I am sure there are alot for that!
I guess this is my first true theme job not using UOT Kitchen
