Sim card slot on LG Optimus S ?

Hi!
I am about to pick up a used LG Optimus S.
The guy says it is in excellent shape, he just moved over to tmobile from sprint.
I will have sprint check the ESN,

The thing that concerns me is that he mentioned it had a sim card slot.
is this true? Just a dummy slot?
Or perhaps he is not realizing it is a memory card slot?

Another question....
Am I able to tinker (rom flash etc) this phone without activating with sprint?

Has an sd slot, no sim card on a cdma network

Can get wifi, no problem. Can flash to your hearts content

I've been browsing the rom forum now.
I need to root with ginger break.
Install the Xionia CWMA recovery kernel or drellisdee's Custom Recovery,
Then flash a ROM. It looks like Drew's CM7 may be the best option that is most up to date?

Feel free to state your personal opinion and decide my fate!
Recovery option or ROM option!

I no longer use my optimus as of friday but You're correct. I'm sure people will tell you if you want drew's cm7 rom to run the best then yeah you want Xionias recovery. The rom is your choice. If you want your optimus to be the most up to date then yes use drew's. Its the hottest rom out now. I used zefies Scott Pilgrim but its no longer actively developed. You're also correct as far as rooting with gingerbreak.

Currently swapping between zefies and drews cm7 builds.

Routing usa so simple compared to when I rooted mine...
