phone shutting down by itself. Requiring a battery pull. Help

I have had my Optimus V for two years now. It has always worked fine till recently. My memory was very low so I cleaned all the data and caches. Then I got rid of a few memory hungry apps. Now, the LG Optimus V just shuts itself off intermittently! I have to do a battery pull every time! The screen remains lit but the display won't show up.! What have I done? If there is an answer, please HELP me!!!

well. first,are you rooted and using a ROM? or are you non-rooted using stock ROM?

depending on which you can use either stock to factory reset or use custom recovery to wipe everything a reflash a backup. hard to say but it sounds like something software wise may be the issue. if a factory reset via stock recovery doesn't resolve issues or a restore via custom recovery doesn't, it is most likely failing hardware.
