Have you tried turning the watch off before putting it on the charger? This will definitely charge it faster. And it may get rid of your top off problem.

Without a cellular plan on the watch, it would not be able to independently handle calls, texts, or run any app that requires data. It would need to be connected via BT to a phone (or wifi).

Google Voice works fine with the Gear S3. Once your number is ported to GV, calls can be forwarded to multiple devices. Ditto with messages. When someone calls or texts my number, it goes to my watch, tablet, computer, and cellphone (which I typically no longer carry).

I don't carry a phone, so my watch isn't paired via BT. From my experience, how long the battery will last is entirely dependent on how hard it has to work to pull in a signal. I've run out of juice in as little as 3 hours and last as long as 18 hours.

All carrier watches have cellular radios, they do not sell BT only models.

Samsung Pay works without any connectivity at all. It is hardware associated functionality within the watch itself. You can prove this to yourself by putting the watch in airplane mode and then initiating a Samsung Pay transaction.

Does the upgrade to Nougat do anything that affects the built in tethering that Marshmallow has? I have the P355, and use it as a hotspot for my computer. I will avoid the upgrade if it alters this.

There are some functions/app that are inherent to the watch and do not require a phone or data plan. The health sensors, HR, calories, sleep tracking, etc. are among them. As are Samsung Pay, calculator, timer, alarm, etc. Unfortunately, there is no good mapping program for the watch.

This is a problem with T-Mobile, not the watch. If all else fails, you could get the Verizon model. The watch and phone do not have to be on the same network.

For those with a carrier version, updates are released at the direction of the carrier. Those with a WiFi only model receive updates at the direction of Samsung.
