I had the same problem, I installed Wi-Fi fixer from the play store, and someone else told me that it was Chrome that was the problem and using Dolphin Browser instead would fix it so I installed that as well and now I can connect to any open network easily. I don't know if it's the wifi fixer...

I haven't had to reset myself but am pretty sure I read on here a while ago that you need to connect the Nexus 7 to your PC or laptop via the USB cable and then reset. Maybe worth doing a search on here for resetting.

Sorry, I don't really understand what you did. I assume you went into 'settings' then 'wifi' then did you just select the wifi network you were getting a signal from? What IP address did you put in? and what did you change the DNS1 to? Sorry if I'm being a bit dim, but this was driving me mad...

The one and only android I've bought is my nexus 7 8gb I absolutely love it, I couldn't really afford it and couldn't afford a 16gb, a 32gb would be so much better so I could have films, music and bigger games. I would love to win but as I never won anything I'm not holding out much hope!

You don't mention how old your mum is, but from a middle aged extremely non technical woman (I have never had any kind of smart phone, tablet etc.) I can tell you that I absolutely love my nexus 7, I use the kindle app a lot for my books, I'm in the UK and use BBC iPlayer and sky go for watching...

I use Dice Player, I had to load it the day 4.2 came in because MX player didn't work for a few days, Dice player works well and it has a volume boost up to 400% which is a big help.

I just downloaded the apk files that someone posted on the xda developers forum. I'm not rooted and not technically minded, they just put two links which I just had to download and its worked ever since (that was in September). I think the new BBC media player works on the nexus 7 doesn't it?
