I have been scouring the forum to identify means to delete unwanted bloatware which comes with the Echo.

In the mean time, I am wondering is there any way to disable startup of any applications? I know for sure, I have not even started the JIBE messenger. But, I still see it in the background processes.

Any help is appreciated.

You can root the phone and then install bloat freezer. Go to market and search z4root, its a one click root method for various phones. I have used it twice on two seperate echoes and it works great.

Then, download bloat freezer, it will allow you to freeze any unwanted apps on your phone and it will think they are not there.

Be careful what you freeze!!!! You can mess up your phone.

Motorola Xoom 3g: Unlocked, Rooted, and on Tiamat 2.1.0 Tachi.

Kyocera Echo: Rooted and waiting for Gingerbread.

He has it right, root and you can freeze or remove any stock apps, I recommend SDX Stock App Remover cause it removes the odex files as well, but backs them up just in case: Sdx Stock App Removal

And for apps that start themselves, either Autostarts or Startup Manager from the market can be used to stop things from starting themselves
