What does Moto do with returned devices?

Many phones go back for wrong orders or simply because some arent happy with it so what do they do with the hardware? Do they reuse the parts or maybe the whole internal assembly intact ? Or do they trash them? Never quite understood how manufacturers dealt with this. Anyone know?
