Verizon, unlimited data and hotspot

I am on Verizon with unlimited data. On my Gnex I was able to use the SVTP for a hotspot but it doesn't work on the Maxx. I also tried FoxFi. Has anyone on Verizon with unlimited data and a Maxx got a hotspot to work?

Another question. If I use Verizon's Mobile Hotspot I would have to activate it when needed and deactivate it when I am through. I understand the cost is $30 a month but is prorated. Is that it? No other costs added to it?

Yes. Prorated. I just leave it on....calling and waiting and having someone continuously in my account changing features gives someone too many opportunities to jack up my unlimited data.
