Droid X2 contacts force closing can't open

I can't open any of my contacts to call them. The only way I can access a contact's number is to start typing it or start a new sms and get their phone number that way, then dial their number. It's not even allowing me to call them from the sms message like normal. I have 5 quick dial widgets for the most numbers called and those won't even work. I have not rooted my phone. PLEASE HELP!!!

could try menu/settings/apps/all/contacts
wipe data
you should check your Gmail contacts
and verify they are backed up first
