Default [How To] One-Click Root Your Droid X [Official 2.2 OTA]

[How To] One-Click Root Your Droid X [Official 2.2 OTA]

Here are the instructions from XDA written by darkonion.

I haven't tried this but they have been proven to work by multiple users.

STANDARD DISCLAIMER HERE - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE. I, NOR ANYBODY ELSE ARE MAKING YOU DO THIS SO WHATEVER MAY HAPPEN TO YOUR DEVICE IS ON YOU.

    One Click Root for Windows

Here's the Windows version. Facelessuser pushed this through and worked his magic. Give it a try. Very exciting stuff. I haven't used it yet, but according to him, it should work!

    Download here:

    Instruction for Windows:

    1. Extract and Update Android SDK package to your computer. The file comes in a zip file. Just open it up and drag and drop the android-sdk-windows folder to your C drive. Next, extract the files from the DORoot zip file to the tools folder of Android SDK. You should be moving 5 files into the tools folder.
    2. Install Motorola Drivers
(Tip, to stop the launching of the Verizon/Motorola site, go to the MotoConnect icon in the bottom righ, right click, when phone connects, nothing.)
    3. Make sure you phone is in PC Mode with USB Debugging enabled (edit: for some reason, I am unable to enable USB Debugging with PC mode so I have to use charge only)
PC Mode: Notification blind -> USB connection -> PC Mode
USB Debugging: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging
You need USB debugging icon showing in notifications. Try Charge Only if you can't get PC Mode to show USB debugging.
    4. Double-click and run doroot.bat
    5. Let it run.
    6. That's it, you are done.

One Click Root Version for Linux and Works for Mac,too!

    Here it is:

Give it a try and see how it goes. I think it works the same way as the directions above, except you only run one script! Thank you for facelessuser for working his magic and making it all work!

    Instructions for Linux and Mac

    1. Extract and Update Android SDK package to your computer. The file comes in a .tar.gz file. Just open it up and drag and drop the android-sdk-linux folder to your home directory or desktop. Next, extract the files from the DORoot zip file to the tools folder of Android SDK. You should be moving 6 files into the tools folder.
    3. Navigate to the tools folder of your android-sdk
    [cd /android-sdk-linux_x86/tools]
    4. enter [chmod 0755 doroot.sh] then run it [./doroot.sh]
    5. Let it run.
    6. That's it, you are done.

ran the program, everything seemed to go ok, and i have root access...until i reboot the phone and its gone. during the process, a message in the command line kept popping up along the lines of "adb is not a recognized command", but the program kept powering through without an issue, so i didnt think anything of it. that and the fact that i had root access immediately after running it. for the record, i did this in charge only mode, as pc mode would not allow me to have debugging enabled

I'm not to sure here since I didn't use this method but here's the link for the XDA thread to see if anyone else had that problem.

Also, I can never have USB debugging enabled with PC Mode either for some reason.

k, got things running. there is a step that says "adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-login." how do i do this? no mention on xda

nm: figured it out. this worked flawlessly, once i pulled my head out of my rear

    Linux/Mac or Windows?

There is a separate download for each version.

Sounds like you downloaded the Linux/Mac version.

you cant drag/drop the whole folder. you actually need to pull out the individual files and put them into the tools folder in the sdk or it wont work

How long does it take? When I run the batch file, it shows * daemon started successfully*, but doesn't seem to progress any further.

It appears my device drivers were corrupted. I reinstalled the Moto drivers and the process worked beautifully.

In the instructions when it says just drag and drop the sdk to c drive, you do actually have to run SDKmanager.exe, correct?
