galaxy note 10.1 emergency call message

When I switch on my Galaxy Note 10.1 it shows a screen with an Emergency Call option. I cannot go from there to home page. How do I change this?

I am not able to access anything on the tablet. The screen shows the time and date on the left hand side; and on the right hand side a space for the entry of an emergency number, below this it has the text "Emergency Call"

In the menu bar at the bottom of the screen it has the return button (which has no effect unless I type in a number in the emergency call space); a sign showing that I have email, the eye icon and the flight mode icon, none of which respond to anything.

I have tried a palm swipe but this has no effect.
I have wifi access and the tablet has downloaded an email, but I cannot access this.

The tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000

If you have a SIM card inserted, try removing it, then rebooting. If that doesn't help, then try booting into Recovery and wiping the cache partition. Thank you. I have tried both these without success. The same problem occured about 2 ears ago and I had to reboot and delete all data. I will have to do the same again.

Maybe time to move to Apple?

You mentioned trying a palm swipe, which I assume was side-to-side. What happens if you swipe up or down with one finger?
