Disable "emergency mode"?

Hi folks,

My S8 is running Android 9.0 on Verizon. In the past 3 months, I've needed to call 911 twice, and both times, the phone goes into some weird "emergency" mode. The problem is, the call to 911 doesn't connect - I hear it ring, but then it's like the phone goes mute and deaf and I can't talk to the 911 operator nor can I hear them. Both times, I had to call back using the old landline phone.

Is there a way to disable the "emergency mode" stuff? It sure doesn't seem like it's being helpful, especially when there is an actual emergency and I just need my calls to 911 to go through same as any other calls.

Thanks
Dave

Welcome to Android Central! That clearly should not be happening, and it's obviously a potential risk to life and limb if you need to reach 911 but the phone won't connect. I would start by contacting Verizon and asking them if they're aware of any issue with the phone that could be preventing the connection. If they don't know, then go to this Samsung help page and click the Contact button at the lower right, and request a chat with a Samsung agent: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00050849/

Yeah, but that would still be unacceptable to me. Any phone that can still work on their network should still be able to access 911. Seems like it would be a huge liability for a carrier to allow a person to use a phone on their network but screw up emergency services.
