How do I stop duplicate contact entries?

I have a Note 4 (hence the reason I'm posting in this section). I am using version 5.0.1 (I cannot upgrade, but that's a topic for another thread). AT&T is my carrier.

Duplicate contacts keep appearing. They have the same name as existing contacts, but contain no phone numbers or other information. All the duplicate entries have the Waze logo (I use that app regularly), though none of the people with duplicate entries is a friend on Waze.

I tried to correct the problem by changing a setting on my phone so only contacts with phone numbers will appear, but that had no effect.

I am attempting to post a couple photos of screen shots to illustrate what is happening. Is there anything I can do short of uninstalling Waze?

Open the Contacts app and tap the three dot menu icon at top right, then Contacts to display.

Which items are enabled? Probably All. Try changing to something more appropriate.

Thanks, N4Newbie. I'm not exactly sure what you meant, but in poking around after hitting the dots, I found the page where I can select apps to sync to contacts. I deselected Waze. Let's see if that helps....

That got rid of all the Waze-generated contacts. I still have a few duplicates, but they should be easy enough to merge now.
