Ok, I have been plagued with several problems. It's well chronicled in my other post. But here's where I'm at.

I factory reset last night. Halfway through, it went black screen .had to pull battery to get it on. Booted up to the choowe language screen. Made it through the set up .

No automatic app restore.
No SD card.
Did updates of default apps.
Tried to get the security update but again that failed to install.
Other than that it seemed to be running smoothly until this morning. I opened hangouts, went to settings to use it as my sms app and at 88 percent battery, for no apparent reason it rebooted itself.

Hardware or software? Would a new batter make a difference?

I think the first thing I would try is reflashing the stock ROM with Odin. I always operate under the assumption that this does a complete wipe, so if you can, pull anything you need off the device.

If that doesn't help, I would say this is a hardware issue.
