phone just stops functioning

Hello, i have been a proud android user for as long as i can remember. i currently have the note 5 and i was using it to get directions, locked it and all of a sudden it wont turn on. it was at 30% and i took into consideration the possibility of it being dead, but its been plugged in for over an hour and the screen doesnt turn on. it doesnt say its charging, it isnt on bc it doesnt connect to my bluetooth in my car automatically right now. it has just stopped working. i need help

Perhaps the first thing to consider is the possibility of battery failure, or failure of the battery connection.

This happened to me on Sunday. Volume down home button and power hold them down for several seconds.

What's freaks me out about this is that the same thing started happening to my Note 4 which ultimately died completely.
