Think I bricked, but I can't tell if soft or hard

I was attempting to root my GS3, now I think I've bricked it. I'm trying to determine if I've soft or hard bricked it because I can't seem to find anywhere that matches what it's doing.

The device will turn on, display the Samsung logo and display in blue lettering at the top left "recovery booting" and then immediately shuts off. I can't boot into download or recovery mode and the computer won't recognize it via USB.

The SD card that was in the phone just went bad on me, but I have another one available.

Ok, nevermind. I hit the jackpot or something. Left it alone for a few days and my phone spontaneously started working 100% again.
