Galaxy S3 back-up lost contacts

Help! I've just updated a galaxy s3 - I backed up to Kies 3 and restored the phone to try sort out some issues. After i restored the phone from Kies3 it has only put back 10 contacts and there should be at least 150. Are they gone for good?

When you made the backup in Kies it should have shown you how many contacts it had processed.

Were these Device contacts or Google contacts? If the latter, when you go through the phone setup and create your Google account it should automatically restore them for you.
