usb connection installer mode

i was wondering if anyone knew how to prevent the (verizon) galaxy s4 from connecting to pc and mac in installer mode when connected by usb. i'm not quite sure why it's doing that and it's annoying that it doesn't automatically connect using MTP or PTP. i usually have to wait for the installer run through whatever it's doing before it disconnects itself and then reconnects using MTP.

Another thought--do you have USB Debugging turned on? Try turning it off.
