How to use Orange data on ex Verizon S4

Hello, I am studying in Switzerland for a few months. I brought my galaxy s4 and got set up with a SIM card from Orange, which is also popular in France. Calling and texting works fine, but data doesn't work. I have done a bit of research, and it looks like this is a common issue with verizon, but I couldn't find a good solution. Has anyone found a solution for this problem?

Some settings:
Obviously airplane mode is off, mobile data on.
Network mode: global (but we switched if between all of them in the store)
APN: we changed it in the store to the local orange one, as well as the name and proxy, all 'internet'
Global Data Roaming Access: denied
And my phone is not rooted. I would prefer to not root it, since that is a pain.

I did try restarting the phone too, with the new settings, and nope.

Ideas?

The phone supports bands 4 and 13 for 4G and HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100 for 3G. With that data, the carrier (or store) should be able to figure out whether the phone is capable of doing data on the Orange network where you are. (We don't know what bands/frequencies your particular area uses, and you didn't tell us.) If the phone can't do the data frequencies used where you are, it can't do data where you are (at least on that network).
